Prairie Pride Games

Our friends at Team Edmonton are hosting the inaugural Prairie Pride Games this month on September 26. The one day multi-sport event features pickleball, volleyball, and of course badminton. Register now and join in on the celebration of Queer sport, recreation, and community in Western Canada.

Did You Know?

The 2026 Commonwealth Games may have wrapped up almost a month ago, but the initiatives by the Zero Flags project had sparked a lasting conversation. Zero Flags Commonwealth was a special presentation of the internationally recognized Zero Flags Project, created for Pride House Glasgow 2026 and presented through a partnership of organizations committed to equality, human rights and inclusion across the Commonwealth.

The free public exhibition featured 28 flags of Commonwealth countries where homosexuality is illegal and punishable by law. These countries make up half the Commonwealth of Nations today. Not only did the exhibition called out on these countries, but also invited visitors “to explore the historical relationship between the British Empire, colonial criminal laws and their continuing impact across many Commonwealth countries today, while also recognising the significant progress being achieved through advocacy, legal reform and community activism.”

Western Cup 42

The Western Cup 42 badminton tournament was a smashing success over the Easter long weekend. We had an almost capacity turnout of 23 teams in a full day of competition. We held the event for the first time at Crescent Heights High School which enabled us to run more matches and have comfortable spectator seating. We welcomed about half of all registrants who made the long drive from Edmonton and St. Albert to spend the long weekend with us! Thanks again to all the volunteers who helped us deliver our biggest event of the year.

We also like to thank Red Bull Canada as a Hospitality Sponsor at the event.

We hope you’ll join us again next year!

Season Ending

As we are entering the final month of the 2025-26 season, this is a friendly reminder that all prepaid and complimentary passes expire after the last session in May. Did you know?

A drastic change is coming to badminton as the top governing body of the sport has adopted change in the scoring system effective from 2027. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has voted late last month to approve the so-called 3×15 scoring system with games played to 15 points. The new scoring system will come into effect in January 2027. The change has been in the making in the last couple of year to “deliver more exciting and competitive badminton, improved scheduling, more consistent match durations, and potential benefits for player welfare and recovery.” What do you think of this change?

Western Cup 42

Mosaic Badminton is proud to support Western Cup 42 this Easter long weekend. We are giving away complimentary single drop-in passes at each Western Cup event night while supply lasts. See the Western Cup website for event details.

More importantly, we are hosting the badminton tournament at Crescent Heights High School on April 4. Come watch some great badminton action from teams all over Alberta. Last Chance for last season’s passes

This is a reminder that December 16 will be your last opportunity to use your 2024-25 prepaid or complimentary passes. These passes were extended due to the school board’s custodian strike earlier this spring.
