Mosaic Badminton Club hosts drop-in badminton sessions and tournaments for LGBTQ2S+ people and friends in Calgary, Alberta. We promote the sport of badminton and provide an open, and “straight-friendly” sporting and social environment for our participants. All age and skill levels are welcomed. Our club is affiliated with Badminton Alberta, and we are a voting member of Sport Calgary.

We strive to create a welcoming, safe, and relaxed space where participants can enjoy playing badminton, improve their skills, develop good sportsmanship while having friendly competitions. No matter what venue we are in, we offer our participants a safe space to play; a safe space to socialize; and a safe space to be.
For many years, Apollo Calgary — Friends in Sports oversaw badminton, as well as a number of LGBTQ2S+ sports leagues in the city. Since 2016, our club has been operating independently and continues to be volunteer-based. As of Nov 2024 we are formally incorporated as a non-profit society. We support the growth of sports and social activities within the LGBTQ2S+ community in our city.
We acknowledge that as settlers, we work and play within the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikuni, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Stoney Nakoda First Nations, including Chiniki, Bearpaw, and Wesley First Nations. Calgary is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III. Having advanced in equality and recognition in recent years, we as members of the LGBTQ+ community, will uplift and celebrate the Indigenous peoples of this land, and upon invitation to do so, support our friends who also identify with the two-spirit community in their struggle against systemic racism in pursuit of justice.

If you are passionate about community building and would like to be involved in our organization, whether by donating your time or your dedication, please reach out to one of the board members. Board positions are open to club members on a two-year term basis.

We now have an ongoing bottle drive throughout the year. Simply bring in refundable beverage containers any Tuesday and we’ll collect them. If you rather we pick them up from your home, just set up a time with one of the organizers. Once a semester we’ll organize a special bottle day as well.
Here’s to helping the environment and support your favourite badminton club. 100% of the proceeds from your generous donation will go towards Mosaic Badminton.
